Mounting & Product Limitations

01

Introduction

This page describes what the IMPACT sensor and the Impulse mobile and web platform can and cannot do. It applies alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Read it before mounting the device on a helmet, enrolling a team in a pilot, or relying on IMPACT data for any safety decision.

02

Helmet Mounting & Compatibility

IMPACT attaches to the exterior of a helmet using an adapter, without drilling or permanently altering the shell. Adapter fit varies by helmet make, model, and size, and we have not independently verified fit or performance on every helmet on the market.

Attaching any external accessory to a certified helmet — sport or industrial — may affect the helmet manufacturer's certification, warranty, or fit. Before mounting IMPACT, check with your helmet manufacturer, league, or equipment staff, and follow the included mounting instructions exactly. Improper mounting can affect both sensor accuracy and helmet fit.

03

Impact Measurement Limitations

IMPACT is designed to measure and score impacts that exceed a calibrated threshold. It does not detect or record every impact, and no sensor system can guarantee complete detection under all conditions — including impact angle and location, sensor placement, low battery, and lost Bluetooth connectivity.

Impact severity scores are an informational indicator, not a diagnosis. They are intended to support — not replace — the judgment of coaches, safety officers, and qualified medical professionals.

04

Not a Medical Device

IMPACT by Impulse is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition. If you suspect a head injury, seek evaluation from a qualified medical professional regardless of what IMPACT does or does not report.

IMPULSE HIT does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition, including concussion. Impact alerts are informational; anyone with a suspected head injury should be removed from play and evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional. In an emergency, call 911.

05

Connectivity & Environmental Limits

  • Bluetooth range — Real-time transmission requires an active Bluetooth 5.0 connection to a paired device; range and reliability vary with distance, obstructions, and interference.
  • Water & dust resistance — The sensor is rated IP54 (splash and dust resistant). It is not waterproof and is not rated for submersion.
  • Battery life — Up to 8 hours under typical use; actual runtime depends on usage patterns, temperature, and device age.

Updates to This Page

We update this page as we validate additional helmets and learn more about real-world performance. Please check back periodically, especially before mounting IMPACT on a helmet model you haven't used it with before.
